Le Détour Travel (“we,” “us,” “our”) is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable French data protection law (Loi Informatique et Libertés).
For information specifically about cookies and tracking technologies, please see our Cookie Policy.

3. Why We Collect It and Our Legal Basis
| Purpose | Data Used | Legal Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Operating and improving our website | Browsing/analytics data | Consent (cookie preferences) |
| Sending newsletters and marketing communications | Name, email | Consent |
| Scheduling and conducting consultation calls | Name, email, call details | Consent / Legitimate interest |
| Booking and delivering tour services (contracts, invoicing, logistics) | Name, address, phone, email, payment details | Performance of a contract |

A note on medical and dietary information: Because this can include health-related data, we only collect it with your explicit consent. Our pre-trip form includes a specific, optional question asking whether you’d like to disclose any health or dietary considerations that could affect your participation. By answering this question, you consent to us using that information solely to accommodate your needs during the tour (such as passing relevant dietary requirements to a restaurant, or relevant medical information to your tour guide for safety purposes). You may decline to answer, and you may ask us to update or remove this information at any time.
4. Who We Share Your Data With
We share personal data only as necessary, with the following categories of recipients:
- Hosting: BlueHost (our website host)
- Analytics: Google Analytics (Google LLC)
- Email marketing: Kit (ConvertKit)
- Scheduling: Calendly
- Payments: Stripe (card payments) and Qonto (our business bank, for transfers)
- Tour suppliers: Hotels, guides, restaurants, and activity providers — only the information they need to deliver your tour safely (e.g., your name for a booking, relevant dietary or medical information for your safety)
- Legal/regulatory authorities: Where required by French law (e.g., tax authorities, accountant)
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. International Data Transfers
Our website is hosted on servers located in Paris, France, so no international transfer occurs for hosting. However, some of our other service providers (including Google, Kit/ConvertKit, Stripe, and Calendly) are based in or transfer data to the United States. Where this occurs, it is carried out under recognised legal safeguards, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses, as applicable to each provider.
6. How Long We Keep Your Data
- Newsletter data: retained until you unsubscribe.
- Booking and client records: retained for the duration of our relationship and thereafter as required by French commercial and tax law (generally up to 10 years for accounting and invoicing records).
- Medical and dietary information: retained as part of your client profile for as long as you remain an active client (so we can accommodate you on future tours), and reviewed for deletion after 3 years of inactivity, or sooner if you ask us to remove it.
- Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics’ default retention settings, as described in our Cookie Policy.
7. Keeping Your Information Accurate
Please make sure that any personal information you provide to us — including contact details, emergency contact information, and any health or dietary information — is accurate and up to date. If anything changes between booking and your tour departure (for example, a new emergency contact or phone number), please let us know at [email protected].
8. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to our legal retention obligations
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority (CNIL), 3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected] or by post at 61 Rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris, France. We may ask you to verify your identity before responding.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our services are intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 18.
